Apple’s iTunes online music and video store has launched a new service called Multi-Pass that will allow customers to download television shows monthly.
a
They are partnering with Viacom Inc.’s Comedy Central Network, which is going to include “The Colbert Report” and “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”. Followers of these shows will be able to purchase the next month’s series of 16 episodes through Multi-Pass for $9.99 or pay $1.99 per show.
a
Eddy Cue, the vice-president of iTunes said that Multi-Pass should not be considered a subscription service in spite of the fact that it would be paid for on a monthly basis.
a
One good feature that is different form its competitors is that once you download something from them, you own it, contrary to Napster or Real Networks’ Rhapsody, where if you subscribe you lose the music.
a
Executive vice president of Comedy Central Michele Ganeless said that at this time there will be no advertising included with the service.
a
Apple has gone its own way again as competitors and media firms have been pressuring them to adopt the same type of subscription fee that they offer where everything music is 99 cents and videos $1.99.
a
When you download videos from iTunes you can play them on your computers or Apple iPod along with other devices.
a
I think this is a great step toward the public demand and desire for the convenience of video-on-demand.
