“Brokeback” nonsense breaks the Oscars: Viewership down 8%

oscar5.jpg

The Academy Awards, with an approximate 38.8 million viewers, had its lowest showing since 2003, and other than that, the worse since 1987.

The Awards where “Crash” won a tremendous victory for best picture drew a 27.1 rating and a 40 share. Each point represents 1.1 million homes, and what these figures mean is that 40 percent of those watching TV last night were watching the awards.

Things will only get worse for the awards if they continually promote boring, anti-family productions like " Brokeback Mountain ." Other than the mainstream media who made it their “darling” not that many people were impressed with it; other than as a novelty.

With the growing array of options available to viewers and customers, Hollywood better decide if it is going to keep going in this direction. If they do they will see a lot worse results than this; not only for the Oscars, but in the continuing decline in movie ticket sales.

Low quality films like “ Brokeback Mountain ” are so obviously used to promote their agenda that the growing public awareness of this is going to continually cause financial backlash in the movie industry.

Thankfully our options for quality film is increasing as technology continually is steadily eating away at certain entertainment strongholds.

Gary, thanks for this post. I think the print publishing industry is facing a similar predicament as the movie industry - see a classic Know More Media post on the subject.

I still find it amazing Easton that the mainstream media knows what people want, but absolutely refuse to change their products to the overall tastes of the public.

They are fast becoming an irrelevancy to many of us because they have stopped offering what the great many of consumers want.

Of course, as we've been saying: it is not too far away when video on demand and the numerous competitors arising everywhere will make even this conversation a thing of the past.

Hopefully it will happen sooner than later.

Yup, it's happening, but very slowly.
