According to statistics realeased on Wednesday, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" blew away all its competition as the top selling DVD seller in its first week it was offered for sale.
The fourth film in the series sold 5 million DVDs just on the first day alone last Tuesday, Warner Bros., said, and continued on strongly throughout the whole weekend. Sales are believed to be at close to 9 million units in the week ending March 12, which makes it the best-selling DVD of the year so far.
All the former "Harry Potter" films have debuted in the top 20.
With an estimated sales of 3 million DVDs, "Jarhead" came in second for the week. That brings the total of DVD sales overall this year to over $50 million for "Jarhead" which almost brings it to its $62.6 million total it got at the theaters.
Home Media Retailing's trade publication revealed that for the same week, "Walk the Line" was the number 1 seller in the country, making $7.2 million to bring its total in two weeks to approximately $16.4 million.
The earnings for "Goblet of Fire" which finished second, were figured at around $6 million in total revenue, in reality pretty small which shows the high purchase demand it has. "Jarhead" came in at number 3 with earnings figured at around $5.5 million.
