HGTV has done a great PR, marketing and promotional campaign as they have created an atmosphere of tremendous energy and excitement as they wind down toward their Dream Home Giveaway finale on April 29 at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. Show host Mark L. Walberg will have his hands full as three lucky contestants that have been randomly selected among 53 million entries, will be standing before the entrance to a luxurious mountain home waiting to see who gets the keys to open the door.
In addition to the home and a guaranteed $100,000 minimum for the 3 contestants, will be an additional $400,000 in cash prizes that will be given away to viewers during the live show.
The total grand prize package will be worth around $2 million, and including the home there will also be a 2007 GMC Yukon and a $250,000 cash prize. The house will be fully furnished and include a large covered porch with a terrace and a separate level guest quarters.
Right after all of the live show's festivities, it will continue on HGTV.com where viewers can watch a broadband show, which will also be live, as the winner gets to tour the home for the first time. There will also be a surprise announcement from Jack Thomasson, the house planner for the other nine HGTV Homes, where the location of next years 2007 HGTV Dream Home Site will be.
One of the most successful consumer promotions in cable TV history, Dream Home Giveaway has done a great job of promoting and entertaining their viewers.
I like how they, without hesitation, take in the reality TV trend, include the Internet as a broadcast medium, get viewer interest and participation and show it on cable TV. It's simply put together fantastically.
I am looking forward to seeing the numbers that come in, not only for the show on cable, but its Internet numbers also. It shows the tremendous power and promise of these world merging into one. Great job HGTV!
