Luciano Pavarotti had to cancel eight concerts on his farewell tour in response to a back injury.
"He is currently in New York undergoing treatment for a painful condition in his lower back," said a spokeswoman for Pavarotti.
"Specialists have advised him not to travel or perform until they have completed this treatment, which will be at the end of May."
Pavarotti, at 70, has been planning for retirement for the last few years and won't perform again until June 3 in Canada. The countries that will miss out are Brazil, Chile, Bosnia and Portugal, with only Portugal being rescheduled at this time.
So far his farewell tour has gone on for over a year, with no specific date given to its end.
One thing that Pavarotti has hoped for was to perform again with his fellow tenor stars Jose Carreras and Placido Domingo before he retires. They were going to sing together last year but due to other physical problems, Pavarotti had to cancel until a later date.
I hope that they are able to get together, as the last time I saw them it was tremendous.
