Scary Movie 4 took in a total of $41 million to be the top Easter weekend opening ever.
This time the show parodied shows like Saw and War of the Worlds. It easily beat the former record holder Panic Room which had taken in $30.1 million in 2002.
Of course with everyone on spring break, this was just the movie to serve up. It starred again Anna Faris, Regina Hall, with special appearances from Charlie Sheen, James Earl Jones and Dr. Phil. It averaged $11,388 per site at 3,602 sites, tops among all wide-release movies. It is second to only Anger Management for openings in the month of April which had $42.2 million in 2003.
Bob Weinstein, former Miramax head said "We couldn't have asked for a more impressive opening for Scary Movie 4 and are so proud to have accomplished this only six months after our company launched."
As strong as it opened for the month of April, it still lags behind Scary Movie 3 which opened with $48.1 million in 2003 and the original Scary Movie opened with $42.3 million in 2000.
Business is up for the industry by 7 percent over last weekend and 23 percent for the same time last year.
