After a long wait, the first HD-DVD titles are ready to go on sale Tuesday, and in spite of a lot of speculation, the Toshiba (TOSBF.PK) players have arrived at some Best Buy stores and be available for sale at select locations.
Sources reveal that the players began to be shipped on Sunday and will be available eventually at all of the Best Buy stores along with select stores of Sears(SHLD), Wal-Mart(WMT), Costco(COST) and Tweeters(TWTR) by the end of the week. Software will also be offered by these retailers.
At the same time Universal Studios Home Entertainment is pushing hard to get its recent box office bomb "Serenity" to stores so it can be included with the sales of "The Last Samurai" and "The Phantom of the Opera" which are scheduled to be released on Tuesday.
Other titles that will be coming soon include "Apollo 13" and "Doom" on April 25, followed by "Jarhead," "Cinderella Man" and "Assault on Precinct 13" on May 9 and "The Bourne Supremacy," "Van Helsing," "The Chronicles of Riddick," and "U-571" on May 23.
Because Toshiba is shipping only 10,000 players in its first round, studios are mirroring that with only 10,000 copies of each title being shipped.
