The advertising world is breathing a sigh of relief as recent research has shown that consumers don't mind advertising if the pay-off is free content.
People love to get something for free, and the online culture has forever changed the old models of paying subscriptions plus advertising.
It seems to me with all that I have studied concerning this is that Hollywood and its studios will have to learn to get less through its movie offerings at the cinemas.
After all is said and done, and the picture gets clearer on how much smaller things will get, I have been wondering how the theaters themselves will survive as they seem to have absolutely no other backup plan but to sink or swim with the movies, concessions and pre-movie advertising.
With the continuing drop in attendance, where are they going to end up? Increasing prices will be counterproductive with the numerous low-price options on the Internet plus increasing cost-efficient home theater systems. This is the area that I think will lose the most. They don't seem to be taking any innovative steps to make up for the continuous drop in attendance.
