It doesn't seem that long ago that Celine Dion signed on in Vegas for a three year stint. On Sunday, May 7 she will be performing her 500th show. She recently extended her contract for another three years for a reported $100 million, now going through 2007.
Dion who is thoroughly enjoying married life and her 5 year old son René-Charles, has no desire to tour.
After all, a stable routine is the reason she took the gig in the first place; no longer touring the world, the family enjoys that normal life she was talking about. "I am a full-time mom. That's my priority," she says. "Then I go and sing a few songs at night." This came after 18 years of touring the world.
Dion and husband René Angélil are completely happy in their Las Vegas routine as they enjoy a three-bedroom suburban home approximately 30 minutes off the strip together.
Dion said that "I love being a mom – it relaxes me to read stories to him, do finger painting, play with Play-Doh, I think people have a hard time imagining I can have a normal life, but I do."
She added that she was more nervous about her son coming and see her perform than possibly any other time in her life. "It was the only time I felt nauseous before a show," she says. "My son was going to be there looking at me as a performer and not as a mom reading stories at bedtime."
At the 4,148-seat Ceasars Palace which is sold out every night fans pay up to $225 a seat to see her perform. I think she's worth every penny of it.
