
We are discussing how "Lost" is one of a small number of TV offerings that are revealing where things in entertainment will be going for years ahead.
One thing we need to understand concerning "Lost" is that the true fans or believers in it can't and won't stand for a show to sit by and passively watch as their only outlet for their desire to dig into the characters and plot.
What's really great about "Lost" and what enables it to reach far beyond television is it's creating of a hidden mystery behind everything that's happening. This is what causes the viewers to dive into various ways of searching out others and what they are seeing behind what is physically happening on the show.
Have you watched how they are going beyond passive TV to engage its fans? Did you watch several weeks ago when they started offering the show online on ABC.com immediately after the broadcast? They had a commercial for The Hanso Foundation which is part of an ongoing part of the plot entered in and out of the show.
Then in the commercial it introduced the Lost Experience, an online game which give a deeper look into the show and gets you more involved in the mysterious and hidden Hanso Founatation.
You get to discover The Hanso Foundation Web site and another site as well. They are these mysterious passwords and phone numbers you can call, but go nowhere, yet generates even more controversy and interest through numerous online message boards and forums.
There are even a series of books revealing all those flashback stories of the other Lost characters and now of course the fictional book "Bad Twin" which was alluded to in one of the episodes recently which allegedly was written by one of the passengers aboard the doomed flight.
