Microsoft is taking a page from the book of Gawker Stalker as they have rolled out a new beta site called Celebfavorites.com. This site will be a little different as it is working with celebrities with more safety measures in place.
The website will run from 5 May to 30 June and include Jeff Bridges, Stacy Keibler, Anna Kournikova, Eva Longoria, Alex Rodriguez, Matt Leinart, Brittany Murphy and Brad Paisley. The stars simply told Microsoft their favorite places, which were then mapped on Windows Live Local maps.
The site uses the strength of Windows Live Local, which is Microsoft's response to Google maps.
While it doesn't give the overall reason for the site, as it is much more controlled than Gawker Stalker, it does give the information concerning places the celebrities do really hang out and you may sometime have a possibility to run into and see them.
This is probably an initiative that the stars want to see happen rather than the possibility of weird people finding them in real time and interfering tremendously with their lives. If feedback shows that there is an occasional sighting of the celebrity using this system, it may be extended to numerous celebs that will feel much safer and in control of the situation. It may also deflate the Gawker Stalker method as many people aren't going to look at a map and run from place to place to see a celebrity. This offers an alternative that people that show up at these places anyhow, will look a little closer to see if they can find a favorite star.
I don't know about how this will do, what do you think?
