With movie sales declining, so are the outrageous prices that are being paid for big name stars. While we've talked here before that the first casualty of the declining market would be the stars that flirt in the $20 million a movie range. This has began to happen.
Some that are now being considered to be too pricey are Jim Carrey at $25 million a film, and others like Nicole Kidman, Will Ferrell and Eddie Murphy.
Don't feel too bad for them though as the newer arrangements are connected to success of the film and revenue sharing. Why shouldn't it? The rest of the world gets paid for performance, why shouldn't these people? Many complain about the salaries of CEO's of companies, and yet these actors and actresses aren't anywhere near as important as CEO's are to a company.
As a matter of fact with the tremendous disappointments of a lot of their recent projects, they aren't worth anywhere near the money they demand. Hey, you ever heard of the phrase: What have you done for me lately?
This is really long overdue as the market has dropped a lot in recent years.
The major problems have been the newly segmented marketplace and the rising costs of filmmaking itself. I think that this will be only the beginning of a huge correction in salaries that aren't coinciding with the realities of the marketplace.
