Interscope records has teamed up with web community startup Doppelganger to create a virtual nightclub which will be called the Pussycat Dolls Lounge. Those who want to visit can create their own avatars (customized digital images of yourself) to be able to explore the numerous rooms in the nightclub.
With the use of the integrated AOL Instant Messenger, visitors will be able to interact with other nightclub guests through chat using their own avatar.
Members of Pussycat Dolls will log on once in a while using their own avatars and interact live with their fans in the VIP room.
Courtney Holt, head of new media and strategic marketing for Interscope Records said, "MySpace is about promoting who you are to a broad community to find people with similar interests, this is the next step - take those people that have found that common interest and give them another level of communication. Once you've committed to being a fan, how much deeper are you going to go?"That is the problem that the social networking explosion must answer. I think that within that general environment, it is those that niche themselves that will allow true fans to go deeper in the specific interests they have so that those with a loyal base can then develop revenue streams from those serious fans.
