National CineMedia, a distributor of digital concerts for movie theaters has scored nonexclusive content agreements with the two leaders of the concert business, Live Nation and Network Live.
This aligns them with the two largest promoters of digital music dedicated to offering them concerts.
Even with a temporary good weekend at the box office, overall box office receipts are steadily declining. This offers great opportunity to fill theater seats for owners. I would jump at this really quick as soon as possible.
Faisel Durrani, president of marketing for Live Nation, said "NCM is the leader in their market, they will get us the greatest reach from the outset."
NCM is able to deliver music content at this time to 11,000 movie screens in 78 different markets via its Big Screen Concerts division.
Network Live COO Andrew Thau added that "What's different now is there is a formal arrangement in place where we can really launch a program and a franchise and a consistent opportunity for these two different constituencies to really gain the benefits."
How it works is that the promoters or producers take care of the concernt production and NCM deals with delivering the content to the theaters, which includes all of the technology needed for the broadcast or multicast.
This really has some potential to bring a lot better profits to the theaters. Tickets for the concerts in the theaters usually run between $12.50 - $15, while small in comparison to good seats at a concert, it is great for the movie theater owners.
