Hollywood stars are starting to find out that many people tire of their endless escapades and are losing interest in their political and the occasional religious opinion as it Tom Cruise's case.
Just last week everyone was touting the blockbuster summer that was going to break out for the movie industry, now everyone's talking about the diminishing of Tom Cruise. This has to have studios nervous to say the least. If this can happen to one of their more bankable stars, it could happen to anyone.
Reuters reports:
"In a rare public show of support for a beleaguered star, some of Hollywood's top executives rallied to Tom Cruise's side on Wednesday as a new poll suggested his odd behaviour in recent months may have cost him millions of dollars at the box office.
"USA Today said that many of its survey's respondents cited Cruise's behaviour during the past year, including his blunt criticism of psychiatry and actress Brooke Shield's treatment for postpartum depression, for their poor impression of him."
The poll also added that Cruise is dropping in popularity with women as only 35 percent are favorable to him while last year it was 56 percent.
Results from the poll instigated a huge response from his friends who are insisting that he is still hugely popular and a major draw. They are resisting the thought that Mission Impossible III is a commercial failure. Of course we won't really know for anothe week or two.
I don't think that this is really about Tom Cruise at all, but rather Hollywood seeing their potentially bright summer push, suddenly shaking and being in danger of falling apart.
