Amazon.com (AMZN) is asking their users to vote for the third year in a row on which older, forgotten movies they'd like to be able to buy on DVDs.
For the entire month of June, visitors to Amazon.com's site will have the opportunitiy to review movies and promotional trailers for 30 movies that are owned by Warner Home video and then vote for those they like the best.
Once the month is over, Amazon and Warner Home Video (WHV) will add up the votes. The top five movies will be remastered for sale in time for the Christmas season in early December. They will be offered for under $20 for each unit. The next five vote getters will have the same done and will be offered for sale in January 2007.
Past years have had visitors cast over 250,000 votes with over 500,000 DVDs sold as a result.
When done right, putting choices and voting into the hands of consumers, seems to work really well in almost any situation. This is done right with the little twist of being unique movies that aren't being promoted or offered in this way anywhere else. This should continue to work well into the years ahead for them.
