The Disney (DIS)/Pixar (PIXR) eagerly anticipated film Cars zoomed to finish in first place in the North American box office this weekend with close to $63 million. It easily beat out all other films by a three-to-one margin with its closest competitor The Break Up coming in second with a little over $20 million.
This is Disney and Pixar's seventh straight number one hit they've had working together. The film averaged almost $16,000 per showing.
Cars did end up being the second largest June opening in history behind Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban which opened two years ago with a huge $93.7 million.
