With a stable of 950 radio Web sites, Clear Channel Communications Inc. has had its online advertising sales surge by 30% over last year at this time. They are the largest U.S. radio broadcaster.
According to comScore Media Metrix, the overall network is collectively in the top five of the most-visited online music sites in May. They are ranked ahead of MTV.com as well as Apples iTunes.
Evan Harrison, executive vice president of Online Music & Radio, said, "We've gone from streaming 130,000 on-demand plays week one this year to 2 million in 22 weeks.
"We no longer just compete with AOL and Yahoo or Entercom and CBS -- we're now an audio and a visual business competing with most media companies for audience as it pertains to entertainment, music and news, etc."One thing that has helped them is they made a big push toward video-on-demand and online streaming with over 500 of its radio Web sites from the beginning of 2006. They have added over 5,000 new videos from January till now.
