In what was promoted as the first of many "Hollywood and Games Summits," there was an emphasis upon the growing impact of the video game industry and traditional Hollywood movies.
Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president and Treyarch executive producer Chris Archer talked about the importance of strong communication between film and game creators so that the integrity of the characters would be protected across both genres.
Archer said, "The fact that we base games on classic characters and make them incarnations of those characters allows us to start early in the process, people are expecting more and more out of these video games." He was referring to the challenge of creating games that will stand as high in quality as the films produced. Although if you ever watched the "Hulk" and how terrible that was, you'd have to say that both sides need to create and keep the high quality that the fans of the characters expect.
Kevin Feige added, "In terms of brand management, it all has to be good -- even in the game I want to experience the key action moments of the movie, as we look further, you'll find a lot more integration in terms of story from movies to games."
The keynote speaker at the event, Paul W.S. Anderson, who directed video game-inspired films as "Mortal Kombat" and "Resident Evil," said that those games that will be most successful will be those full of cinematic elements, at the same time, films that are inspired by games will add something new to the mix that the audience will be thrilled about being that they are already immersed in the game.
Anderson continued saying the cross-promtion with games, films, television and graphic novels will be a business model of the future and will bring huge monetary rewards.
