Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez instituted a film studio on Saturday for the purpose of countering the cultural "dictatorship" of Hollywood movie producers.
Chavez who has called President Bush a terrorist, is a leftist hater of the free-market system (Hmm. I wonder if he knows George Clooney?).
He says that "They inoculate us with messages that have nothing to do with our traditions, Hollywood sends a message to the world that tries to sustain the so-called American way of life and imperialism ... it's like a dictatorship."
Last year, he launched a regional television news station meant to compete with cable news networks. His channel is mostly used to promote socialist rhetoric and left-wing agendas.
The film studio, Film Villa's first movie will be about a guy named Francisco de Miranda, a leading participant in the fight of Venezuela against colonial spain.
