With the increasingly low attention spans of people, and news available anytime, anywhere, the hard news, long stories, by themselves aren't doing it anymore. In response Reuters is turning to lifestyle journalism.
Monique Villa, managing director of Reuters Media says “We have to cover the hard news always, but we have to cover the soft news to meet demand, clients are evolving. They need more lifestyle news, more entertainment and more pictures.”
In other words people want to be entertained in their news gathering. Reuters claims and observes that if they don't get it frome them, they'll get it somewhere else.
The wire service will be called "Life" and will provide stories on entertainment, human interest, lifestyle, food, recreation, music art and health stories to compete with the burgeoning lifestyle focus and demand.
