Starbucks Corp. (SBUX) named Alan Mintz as their new vice president of content development for its entertainment division, according to Reuters. He replaces Don MacKinnon who left several months ago.
Mintz is an entertainment attorney and music executive who has worked as a producer and personal manager for a number of musicians.
His job will be to look for new music, film and book projects for Starbucks, and to negotiate with the music labels, studios and various artists.
Starbucks has been looking for new revenue streams and is expanding their entertainment side of the business by going beyond the sale of CDs. They are pursuing the music download business for their stores and are also looking at increasing the video and entertainment content of their online offerings.
Currently they have exclusive content deals with artists like Alanis Morissette and Bob Dylan, and are trying to expand into the movie industry, currently working with Lionsgate (LGF) in promoting their film "Akeelah and the Bee."
