Taylor Hicks' first single "Do I Make You Proud," debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1, according to Nielsen SoundScan. He sold 190,000 phyisical discs and another 38,000 digital downloads.
American Idol winners have a history of fast starts as three out of the last four 1st place finishers started at No. 1 on the list: Carrie Underwood ("Inside Your Heaven"), Fantasia ("I Believe") and Kelly Clarkson ("A Moment Like This").
Hicks ended Shakira's short reign on top with "Hips Don't Lie" which dropped to No. 2 on the Hot 100 and the Pop 100.
"Pomiscuous" by Nelly Furtado fell to No. 3 on the Hot 100 but is getting the largest amount of airplay gain. "It's Goin' Down" went down to No. 4 for Yung Joc on the Hot 100, but is still No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for the fifth straight week.
"Life Is a Highway" from the "Cars" soundtrack by Rascal Flatts, made the biggest move as it went from No. 25 all the way to No. 7.
