
"Click," starring Adam Sandler resinated with audiences as it came in the top spot over the weekend at $40 million, with an average of $10,670 per theater. It is Sandler's eighth number-one opener in his career, and the fifth time he has opened at $40 million or higher. It appealed to a wide audience, both in age and gender as it split about 50 percent of each.
"Car" continued to do well coming in second with $23.3 million on its third weekend and "Nacho Libre" came in third although they went down 55 percent to $12.7 million.
The overall sales for the weekend were $139.8 million, which is up 10 percent over the same time last year. It makes it six weeks in a row that sales have been better than last years period. Still, it is only around 3 percent over last years horrible year, and several percentage points behind 2004 at the same time.
So far this year box office receipts are $4.186 billion according to Nielsen.
