The total sales of all music albums in the U.S., both discs and digital, dropped to the lowest level in 10 years. The total for the week ending on July 23 was only 8.91 million units. Nielsen SouncScan says that it is the first time in 10 years that there have been under 9 million albums sold in a week.
Only the No. 1 album of the week "Now 22," has sold over 70,000 copies according to The Billboard 200.
The second-place finisher for the week: "Sacred," by the Los Lonely Boys, sold only 67,000, the lowest second-place album ever tracked by SoundScan.

It's going to be a while before they get any sure footing again; a long while! They're just beginning to understand that they've seriously injured their relationship with their fan base. It's only a matter of how deep they've done it.
The only thing that may salvage this year a little may be the numerous American Idol albums coming out this fall.
