ESPN had a great day as they released figures for the Germany-Italy 2006 FIFA World Cup game and enjoyed a 4.1 Nielsen Media Research rating with viewership reaching 3.74 million households. This makes it the highest-rated soccer game without the U.S. team playing in it that the network has ever broadcast, and the third rated World Cup game they've shown.
The Portugal-France semifinal took in a respectible 2.6 rating with viewership in 2.38 million households.
Throughout the whole tournament the World Cup has averaged a 1.9 rating on ESPN, with an average of 2.28 million viewers and 1.7 million households per game. This brings it all up around 75 percent in comparison with the 2002 World Cup.
