With the world television audience crossing all demographics, the overall audience for the World Cup in Germany set a viewing record with over 30 billion viewers; breaking that mark for the first time.
One of the huge increases has been with women viewers as they made up 40 percent of the worldwide audience.
In Germany itself women got more involved at the 300 official big screens scattered throughout the country. They got involved right along side the men as they did their fan chants and creatively turned their national flags into various types of clothing.
ROY KAMMERER from Slam! Sports comments:
"World Cup organizers predicted seven million would watch matches at the big screens; by the quarter-finals the spectators had already topped 11 million. They fit perfectly to another growing phenomena, World Cup tourists, or fans who come without tickets to the host country just to soak up the atmosphere and party at soccer's showcase.
"Two million World Cup visitors poured into the country, according to German officials, and many - when their own heroes weren't on the field - picked a country playing that day, then swathed themselves in those colours. The Germans leaned toward underdogs like Trinidad and Tobago and Ghana."
Now that the demographic for the World Cup has crossed all barriers, it will probably grow in viewership even more in the years ahead. I wonder what it will cost for a 30 second ad in the future?
