Fox has green-lighted the launch of a new morning news and entertainment show according to Media Daily News.
It will be shown on its 25 owned-and-operated stations. It is set to begin in January in the 9-10 a.m. slot in the majority of markets.
While the show has yet to be named, the hosts will be Mike Jarrick and Juliet Huddy, who are currently on Fox News Channel's "Dayside."
Fox is partnering with Twentieth Television in the project. One Twentieth official said that the decision hasn't been made on whether the show will be offered beyondthe owned-and-operated stations. Even so, it will still reach 44 percent of the U.S. viewers.
Fox Television Stations CEO Jack Abernethy said, "The timing is perfect for us to launch this program, as the morning news blocks on our Fox stations are stronger than they've ever been, that strength, coupled with the changing face of the morning news landscape, convinced us that the time to take advantage of this opportunity is now."
This could be a good move for Fox because of the recent changes in both NBC and ABC in transition periods on their morning news shows. Each will be offering new faces also which will give Fox a more even footing to compete on.
We will probably see a proliferation of live news and sports shows increasingly on the TV channels, as they are the remaining sectors that people prefer to see live, rather than using their DVR's to copy them. They don't mind tolerating the ads in these circumstances.
