Is NBC getting hip with its new Video Blog?

earlynightly.jpgBeginning last Monday, NBC has added to its blogging venue by adding a video blog that will feature their NBC NIghtly News anchor Brian Williams. The vlog will be between 1-2 minutes in length and will talk about what some of the big stories of the day will probably be, according to MediaWeek.

Williams has been text-blogging since May 2005 with his DailyNightly blog. In contrast, the new vlog will be called, Early Nightly.

With the success of such online phenomenons' as Rocketboom, NBC has seen the potential that the Internet offers. Williams works informally in the video clips as he talks with the viewers, giving the broadcast a more intimate, personal feel.

One other thing that I like is that part of the short program offers the viewers an inside look at into how the news is gathered and the process of production.

Why's that important? It gathers the current trend of the extra footage and shots that are offered through movie DVDs and puts it on the Web. It gives the feel of the extra, interesting technical side that consumers are used to viewing. That will probably work well if they do it right.

It's good to see something being done besides announcing what the next TV fall lineup will be. The only thing they need to add is some type of interactivity that online users always expect to be part of the experience. Add that and they should have a winner here.

The new vlog is offered via DailyNightly.MSNBC.com, NBC affiliate sites, and NBC Mobile.

Sad.

For mac users.

You'd think they would have included the ability to watch it from both platforms.

Hopefully it will be provided in the future.
