Last week RECMA, the Paris-based provider of media intelligence reported that Starcom MediaVest Group is now the No. 1 media agency network in the world, with an estimated $25.580 billion in media billings. OMD, the former leader, not only was beaten worldwide but also domestically by rival MindShare.
Starcom MediaVest Group now claims a 7.4 percent share of the global market concerning media planning and buying. OMD comes in with $24.880 billion in business for second place. They garner 7.2 percent of the global market. Mindshare is third with 6.9 percent, Carat next with 6.8 percent and ZenithOptimedia with 6.6 percent of the global market.
Mindshare beat out OMD in the U.S. market by a slim $10 million to take first place domestically. Mindshare had $11.3 billion in U.S. media billings versus OMD's $11.290 billion in billings.
RECMA has become increasingly important, especially in the U.S., as ad agencies are no longer reporting their own statistics after the implementation of the U.S. Sarbanes Oxley Act. Since then, RECMA is the company to go to for media advertising statistics and data.
