The action R-rated action film, Miami Vice knocked Pirates of the Caribbean out of first place with an estimated first weekend total of $25.2 million. "Pirates" finished the weekend with an estimated $20.5 Million, to bring its total to a huge $358.4 million in only 24 days, making it the fastest film in history to reach the $350 million total, actually passing it on the 23rd day of release on Saturday.
"Vice," which stars Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, averaged a total of $8,340 while showing at 3,021 theaters.
Coming in third place for the weekend was the high school comedy John Tucker Must Die, opening with an estimated $14.1 million while showing in 2,560 theaters. While sales dropped precipitously on Saturday, by 24%, which doesn't look good for the film, it still should do good financially with no big stars in the film.
Warner Bros. had to be greatly disappointed with its offering of The Ant Bully as came in fifth place with around only $8.1 million for the weekend, opening at 3,050 locations. This one included stars like Julia Roberts and Nicolas Cage as voices for the characters, but the viewers didn't buy into it. Hollywood never learns in this area that people aren't swayed by stars, but by quality of the story. Overall it was a pretty slow weekend summer slump.
