
Walt Disney (DIS) launched an ad campaign Thursday becoming the first big brand company to advertise on YouTube. The ad was for the coming "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. The campaign was launched for 24 hour period.
The content of the ad featured Johnny Depp with a digital clock counting down the time until today's premiere of the film. It was displayed via rich media banners.
Director of marketing, Julie Supan said that this was the first time that graphic ads were run through YouTube. They were shown on every "watch page," which is where readers select what videos they want to watch, and also on the homepage.
According to Supan more than 80 million videos are viewed each day. YouTube has recently added a marketing force to attempt to sell ads to national advertisers.
