Reading this article on the fact that the Internet is creating new celebrities off and on, it made me think of one of the other comments that was made about that.
The article states that "Most of them are hoping to make mainstream stardom." My immediate thought, if that is actually true, would be "Why?".
Those who have viewed Judson Laipply doing his Evolution of Dance video, have seen his performance 31 million times. When you think of that and the fact that some cable news channels get less than a million viewers a day, it's the equivalent of over a month of watching some news channels.
What if they were to come up with some new type of routine or offering once a month? They obviously wouldn't get the same viewership for every performance, but they do have an existing audience that would at least check in with them whenever their new offerings were made available.
Think of this if you are thinking about marketing yourself over the Internet. You may have a larger audience viewing what you create than networks may have viewing what they produce.
The only question you'll need to answer is how you will monetize your show. That answer is becoming available as companies are beginning to embed advertisements in video clips.
In other words we need to start thinking of "TV channels" as something far more than what is showing on a television box. You just may have more people viewing you than viewing them. The only difference is that it may be done over a period of time rather than on the same day.
If you think of yourself as being your own channel, you'll start to realize the tremendous opportunity that is out there. When people are getting the types of views that are now happening, they must understand that what is called mainstream media, just isn't mainstream anymore.
