Although he wasn't there to receive the award, Alan Alda was picked for the best supporting actor in a drama playing the Republican presidential frontrunner on "The West Wing." This makes "The West Wing" the most decorated Emmy winner for a drama series with their 26th award.
In my opinion it was unfortunate, but "American Idol" was passed over again as the winner of the reality show award was "The Amazing Race."
For his role in "Entourage," Jeremy Piven received the best supporting actor for a comedy.
"The Daily Show with Jon Stewart," won the best variety, music or comedy award along with the writing award in the same category.
The outstanding lead actor in a miniseries or movie was Andre Braugher as Nick Atwater in "Thief."
Supporting actress in a movie or miniseries was claimed by Kelly Macdonald for her role in "The Girl in the Cafe," while Jeremy Irons won best supporting actor in a minseries or movie for his role as Earl Of Leicester in Elizabeth I.
During the ceremonies there were also two moving tributes: One to Dick Clark who suffered a stroke in 2004 and is still fighting the effects and the late Aaron Spelling, the producer who passed away in June of this year.
