With all the hype about Snakes on a Plane, there was nobody that knew how it was going to perform on opening weekend. They were only able to take in $13,850,000 for the weekend. Some have put them at number one, but counted the preview showings on Thursday night, which accounted for $1.4 million more. This isn't supposed to be included in the three day totals.
Anyway you look at it, it is probably a big disappointment for New Line as it was presented in 3,555 theaters, and received only $4,290 per viewing.
Talladega Nights continued its strong showing by finishing at No. 1 for the weekend with a $14.1 million total. This is the third weekend in a row at No. 1 for Will Ferrell's comedy hit. It now has taken in $114.7 million after 17 days.
The World Trade Center has been a good performer for Paramount and Oliver Stone, grossing around $10.8 million. That brings its overall total to $45 million after 12 days. They are hoping to bring in about $70 million in the U.S. for the $65 million film.
