With Yahoo (YHOO) no longer attracting the former TV watchers that used to regularly use their site, they have now created a new site that targets those interested in the fall prime-time coming shows.
They will offer indepth coverage of 34 of the major networks' coming prime-time shows. There will be clips of the shows, photos of the cast and general summaries of each offering.
Mediapost said:
"The section also will include streams of entire episodes of at least two shows before their network debut. CBS will make the pilot episode of
"Jericho" available on the Yahoo site from Sept. 13 until its air date one week later. The pilot of NBC's "Heroes" also will be available from Sept. 18 until its broadcast premiere on Sept. 25. In addition, Fox will make the pilot of "Vanished" and season premiere of "Prison Break" available on Yahoo following their on-air debuts."
Karin Gilford, general manager of Yahoo Entertainment said: "We're trying to create more immersive, engaging and dynamic destinations for TV users."
With most of the media companies beginning to all do this, as we talked about last post, this is going to be a very competitive market in danger of being turned into a commodity. Offering a site of previews, does at this time at least, have some differentiation from some of the others entering the space.
The additional competition has dropped Yahoo's numbers to 5.6 million unique users - a 14 percent decrease from a year ago, according to comScore.
The new site will be called Yahoo TV Fall 2006 Preview.
