While ABC got their anticipated victory from "Desperate Housewives," I think there has to be a little concern as in only its third year it plunged by over 4 1/2 million viewers in comparison to last years opening.
They were the top show in viewership with adults 18-49, garnering 23.8 million viewers and a 9.5 rating/21 share in estimates released by Nielsen Media Research. Last year it opened with 28.4 million with a 12.3 rating/26 share.
CBS on the other hand has to be real happy with its decision to get rid of its movie offerings and replace them with crime shows "Cold Case" and "Without a Trace."
"Brothers & Sisters" started off strong but plunged in viewership over the hour by almost 3 million.
Final averages for the night: ABC (16.7 million, 6.4/16); CBS (14.1 million, 3.6/9); NBC (12.2 million, 4.6/12); Fox (9.3 million, 4.4/11) and The CW (2.5 million, 1.1/3).
