In the highly anticipated showdown between "Grey's Anatomy" and "CSI," "Grey's Anatomy" took round 1 as they finished the night with 25.4 million viewers - topping "CSI" by 3 million for the night. But even better, they also finished No. 1 in the age group of 18 to 49, according to Nielsen Media Research.
The show exploded in viewers as there was 6.4 million viewers more than last year's debut. The Walt Disney Co. (DIS) has to be extremely happy once again as they seem to be getting everything right in the last year. Even with their first place finish with "Grey's," CBS still
finished No. 1 for the entire evening of television.
Even thought it finished second for the night "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," it still brought in a respectible 22.6 million viewers, which drops it by 2.5 million over last year's start. Still, for a show opening its seventh season and going against another top-ranked show it did good.
Both sides have tried to play down the contest and lower expectations as neither really knew what was going to happen during the year. "Grey's" finish wasn't really much of an upset though as last years numbers show that it finished ahead of "CSI" in Nielsen's 18-49 age group and was No. 3 in overall viewers for the year.
It will be interesting to see if this continues or if "Grey's" fans showed up in force on the first night to make sure their show took first place.
Do you think "Grey's" will finish No. 1 for the overall year?
