The annual Jerry Lewis Labor Day telethon took in $61 million, a new record beating the previous high of $60.5 million raised in 2003.
Lewis said, "I can only thank you from the bottom of my heart for so many little people that can't thank you, can't show their appreciation in any way."
The ever-faithful International Association of Fire Fighters came in with their own record as they donated $23.5 million to the fight against muscular dystrophy.
The telecast has raised $1.4 billion since its inception in 1966.
After an eleven year absence, the telethon returned to Las Vegas, and was carried on 190 stations in North America.
