LIFT Films of New Orleans and Element Films of Los Angeles have announced an agreement Thursday that will bring over $200 million to Louisiana during the next three years; there will be a minimum of eight films, and could be up to as many as fifteen.
"Knowing that there is going to be a certain baseline of business is only going to give people a greater comfort in staying here," said Malcolm Petal, chief executive of the Louisiana Institute of Film Technology and LIFT Films.
No filming will take place outside of Louisiana, and it will be over a period of three years to aid in bringing stability to the market.
The first movie under the agreement will be "College," which will begin preproduction in New Orleans in the fall. Lions Gate has already signed on as the distributor.
