The Metropolitan Opera in New York has made a deal with Sirius Satellite Radio (SIRI) to broadcast four live performances per week in the U.S. and Canada.
The broadcast will be called Metropolitan Opera Radio and it will include in its broadcast other classic recording from its archive.
The Met has been active as it has also recently made agreements to put six of its live performances in theaters in both North America and Europe.
The Met's general manager Peter Gelb said, "The Met is the talk of the
opera world because of all these new initiatives."
For opera lovers this should be a welcome addition to their ability to view some of the prime offerings that the Met has to offer.
