
In another interesting attempt at breaking away from the back News Corp. (NWS) offered up the first "telenovelas" in the English language. They were offered on Fox stations in two-hour blocks and with newly signed affiliates.
Advertisers were skittish as a number of the spots weren't sold as they are waiting for the numbers to come in over a period of time.
For the first night "Desire" finished with a 1.1 rating and 2 share, and "Fashion House" had a 1.3 rating with a 2 share.
Bob Cook, president Twentieth Television said, "This was in the range, we were probably a tad higher, but we look at this as a marathon, not a sprint. We're not going to be able to project or calculate or get a handle on the success until December or January."

One statistic that pleased the company was that the audience for the show was 60% female, which they view as a very positive development.
I like this simply for the fact that they have the guts to try something different and unique in the english-speaking world. Spanish television has done this for quite a while.
