Peter Jackson, director of "Lord of the Rings" and "King Kong," has made a deal with Microsoft to create a "new form of interactive entertainment." The series will be based upon the popular Halo video game.

Jackson said, "Technology is at a point where we can blend a lot of film storytelling with interactive entertainment." He is creating it for the Xbox 360 console and Microsoft's online service, Xbox live.

I like how Jackson's going about this. While not knowing how to do it, he announces that we are at the beginning of a whole new way of presenting stories. He is setting up a new division of his business, Wingnut, and will work with Bungie Studios, the originators of Halo, to create the story.

Jeff Bell, corporate vice president in Microsoft's Entertainment and Devices Division said, "It is not the movie. It is not 'Halo 3,' it is all new content that is going to be developed by Peter Jackson as co-writer, co-producer, along with the team at Bungie, to continue to expand upon the 'Halo' franchise and intellectual property."
Jackson also hinted that the new series wouldn't be made for the core gaming community. This means, as Bell mentioned, that it probably won't be a first person shooter game or series; but will be interactive. It makes me wonder if it's going to be some type of make-your-own-ending series. What are your ideas on this?
