Not too long after making a deal with Universal music to offer downloads in an ad-supported strategy, SpiralFrog has hit paydirt again, making a deal with EMI to offer its complete music catalog for download on its soon-to-launch site.
These deals are creating a lot of buzz for the site, which is offering one of the strong alternatives that will compete with Apple iTunes. The music on the site will all be downloadable for free, because of the advertising model.
Co-CEO of EMI Music Publishing, Roger Faxon, says, “It is a very exciting concept which fuses advertising with music downloads and other services to recapture consumer demand which has been hijacked by online piracy.”
Some of the artists represented by EMI are Kanye West, Nelly Furtado and Sting.
SpiralFrog is looking to launch by December to get a piece of the holiday season.
