According to a new AP-AOL Video poll, only about 20 percent of online video viewers download full-length movies or television shows. The poll also revealed that over 50 percent of Internet users do watch or download video.
The major problem is that there are not many televisions that are connected to PCs in the home. The majority of people still prefer to relax and watch their video on television.
At this time the major reasons people watch full-length video is because they travel frequently and watch movies on their laptops or, for those who have missed one of their favorite shows, and want to catch up on it.
Another problem is that there is a huge need for a lot more quality content in this space. At this time there are a number of classic movies and TV shows online; plus a growing number of recent ones. Kevin Conroy, executive vice president for AOL, said that they have found that more people watch longer video clips as they increase the amount of content offered.
The most popular online video that is watched is the news, which accounts for 72 percent of all online video viewing. After that there are short movie or TV clips, music videos, highlights from sporting events and amateur video.
Almost 75 percent of online video users prefer the ad model versus subscription or pay per movie, TV show or clip.
