In one of the worse box office performances in several years, no movie was able to take in even $10 million for the weekend. Not only that, but the top ten also had its worse showing in several years also by not one of them being able to even average $4,000 per theater.
The first place finisher The Covenant, was only able to come up with $9 million from its debut at 2,681 theaters. They were only able to average $3,357 per showing. The only good news for the movie was that it cost around $20 million to produce.
Coming in second place for the weekend was Hollywoodland, which was able to garner only $6 million from 1,548 theaters. The film was able to average $3,881 for each showing, which would have made it number one if it had had a wider release.
The Invincible dropped a large 52 percent, taking in around $5.8 million, to allow it to come in third place. The Walt Disney Co. (DIS) film has now taken in $45.7 million total after 17 days.
Overall, the top ten is estimated to have grossed less than $50 million, which is a huge drop of 30% from last years poor showing.
