
In a press release, Billboard, a major source of "music, video and digital entertainment news, charts, reviews and analysis," announced it was partnering with Vocus, Inc.(VOCS), to launch an online PR service for the entertainment industry. Vocus is a PRWeb service that specializes in social media distribution.
The service, which will start on October 24th, will be called Billboard Publicity Wire. It promises to offer an effective and affordable way to publicize and promote your business online.
They are positioning themselves as a low cost alternative to traditional marketing that pretty much excludes independent artists and labels. It would also cater to companies just starting out in the field.
Their press release says:
"Billboard Publicity Wire was created to give everyone in the entertainment business a highly effective yet affordable way to generate publicity and online visibility," said John Kilcullen, President and Publisher of Billboard Information Group. "Given the low cost and guaranteed distribution of our service, we believe that issuing a press release via Billboard Publicity Wire will become standard procedure for major and indie publicists."
It will be optimized with the internet user in mind and will include feature used on blogs like trackbacks and Technorati tagging. Reports on the various metrics of the campaign will be supplied for those using the service.
Will Billboard's brand influence, this could be a real possibility for the indie entertainment community; especially to promote their product.
