Confirming the recent rumors, Henry Schleiff, has been named president-CEO of Crown Media Holdings, the parent company of the Hallmark Channel.
Schleiff had a good run on Court TV as he helped to change the channel from a strict news and legal niche, to a broader, mainstream network that now offers more general entertainment shows.
This will be a challenge for Schleiff, in that the company had been put up for sale not long ago and had no takers.
The company has taken some big hits on its stock price lately as its film library has incurred heavy costs. The Hallmark channel, on the other hand, has already turned around and is building momentum with Nielsen and the marketing agencies.
People are wondering if he'll take the same approach that he did with Court TV and attempt to take it out of its roots into a more general audience. Its current demographic is the 25-54 age groups.
He has been creative with Court TV on the marketing side, and with Hallmark growing stronger in that area, it will be interesting to see if he does anything unique on that side of the equation.
