With the toy industry recovering, and a couple of movie hits this year with "Cars" and "Pirates of the Caribbean," the Walt Disney Co. (DIS) should surge in product sales during the holiday shopping season. The fiscal year that ended in September for Disney has estimates of $23 billion in retail sales for the year.
This will be welcome if projections are accurate as last year the toy industry suffered a 4 percent decrease in sales for 2005. Disney did better as they did increase sales by 1 percent during last holiday season.
With Disney licensing their products, they get a piece of everything that sells, with percentages reportedly in the high single-digits.
Disney's strategy this year will be to release it DVDs of their movies "Cars" and "Pirates" next month to coincide with the busy shopping season. The only downside is that the lines have been selling for months already and it isn't clear if it will continue during the shopping season.
There are some contrasting opinions, but overall most analysts believe that they should do very good in overall sales this year, along with the toy industry as a whole.
