In a recent survey of young people between the age 8 and 17, 33% of the respondents between the ages of 12 and 17 said that they watched TV on the internet. In the 8-12 age group, 25% said they watched TV on the internet as well. Another 12 percent said that they consumed television on video game systems.
An interesting sideline in the study, according to Media Daily News, was that "the No. 1 device owned by youths remains the radio. The study also shows that broadcast radio is the most popular way to listen to music, although iPod/MP3 player listenership has doubled in the past year among teens (12-17)."
Debbie Solomon, Group Research Director, MindShare commented, "Advertisers are very aware that you need to pay attention to the different screens people are getting their entertainment and commercial messages from, we're all looking at different alternatives to getting messages on screens. This is a great time for experimentation because the cost of entry isn't very high."
When asked which screen or device they would miss the most if it was taken away from them, television was still first, but video games and the Internet were right behind it. All other forms of media, including radio, newspapers and magazines were far behind in priority, with newspapers and magazines barely reaching the 1% level.
